Inspiring Today to Achieve Tomorrow

Music

Violinists' Performance

Thank you to all our amazing violinists for such an incredible performance in assembly in May! It was brilliant to see the progression, as we heard pieces of music from children across the year groups, who had been practising for different lengths of time. It was great to see "Pizzicato" (plucking the strings) being used in real-life, after we saw this in the BBC Ten Pieces "In The Hall Of The Mountain King" just the week before! Well done, everybody!

Get Into Guitar

In March, we welcomed Get Into Guitar into school, to work with all our children in Key Stage 2. This was a great way to build on their ukulele skills and apply this knowledge to a new instrument. It was brilliant for the children to get to experience both acoustic and electric guitars, and to begin to use digital software as part of their music lessons. There were some very talented guitarists amongst our children, who were playing Metallica in no time!

Reception: Tiny Tales Workshop

In Reception's Tiny Tales workshop last week, the children retold the story of 'Cinderella' though music and dance. They moved like soldiers to 'The Grand Old Duke of York', listening to instructions as to when to play their bells or shakers loudly or quietly, lay back and gazed at the twinkling star lights on the ceiling whilst singing 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' and moved their chiffon scarves in time to the music at the ball!

Red Nose Day: Silent Disco

Okay, we know we're pushing it a bit to call this Music....but the children (and adults) had an AMAZING time dancing and singing to their favourite channels at our Silent Disco! There were some incredible costumes too! We had visits from The Spice Girls, Taylor Swift, Ziggy Stardust and many more famous faces. We have had such a fun day in school, all whilst raising money for a great cause. Thank you, Mr Whitehead for organising such a fab day of dancing!

Year 3 Chair Drumming

Year 3 have been practising their chair drumming to a song they learned earlier in the year as part of their Body Percussion topic! We are so impressed by how well they are keeping in time and maintaining a steady beat...especially for the first lesson!!

Reception's Spring Performance

Reception were absolutely amazing in their Spring performance! They performed a collection of songs and showed off their musical talent to all of their families, as well as the whole school...which can be very daunting! The way they kept a beat and used the instruments to create rhythm was just sensational. Well done, Reception!

Year 6 Ukulele

Year 6 have been building on their existing knowledge about how to play different chords on the ukulele and have begun "chord jamming" to well known songs! Very impressive, Year 6!

Year 4 Boomwhackers

In Year 4, the children have been learning to play the Boomwhacker, which is a hollow plastic tube that creates a different sound based on its length. Year 4 have absolutely mastered keeping in time with the music and corresponding musical notes with the different coloured boomwhackers. Below is a video of Year 4 demonstrating their talents to perform Miley Cyrus' Flowers.

School Choir

We are so proud of our incredible school choir!!! Over the Christmas period, they have been to Morrison's to perfom as part of their re-launch, as well as singing for the residents of Wetherby Manor AND performing to crowds of Christmas shoppers at the Dickensian Christmas Market in Wetherby town centre. You are just amazing!

Royal Northern College of Music Visit

In October, we had a special visit from Laurel Sanders and Angharad Huw, from the Royal Northern College of Music, to perform their harp/clarinet duo to the whole school. It was a breathtaking performance that had the children captivated! Another wonderful Music opportunity in school. Thank you, Mrs Bell.

Crossley Street Autumn Concert

image

The children worked so hard, rehearsing for the Crossley Street Primary School concert which they performed in the new auditorium at Boston Spa Academy. Our school choir, musicians, classes and the Plumber Drummer, who recently carried out drumming workshops, all performed at the incredible show. It was amazing to see so many parents and families join us to support the children and recognise the amazing musical talents on show!

School Ensemble

The school ensemble perfomed the William Tell Overture for our Autumn Music Concert.

Music Workshop

Early Years and Years 1,2 and 4 all enjoyed the interactive workshop when the folk band, Jambalaya, visited school recently. The band played North American old time music as well as folk tunes from around the world. The children were able to join in and learn all about the different instruments and the techniques required to play them.
