A Summary of All-Things-Reading at Crossley Street
Check out the slideshow below for an overview of some of the things we do in school to promote and celebrate reading!
Spring Term's Buzz Writing Winners!
Here are this term's Buzz Writing winners! This term's project was inspired by fairy tales which was our world book day theme.
Our School Library!
Over the course of the 22/23 school year we were in the process of planning, designing and creating a brand new library space for our children to be able to access.
Over the summer, the project has been completed and we are beyond delighted with how our library now looks!
We'll be posting lots more pictures of the children enjoying our new space and promoting their love of reading soon!
Congratulations to all the latest winners of our termly Buzz Writing competition. We were blown away by the amazing descriptive writing produced by our 14 winners, who all took a trip to Reading Roots in Wetherby to choose a book to take home and enjoy! Well done everybody!
Keep looking here for the winners of Buzz Writing for the 2023/24 academic year.
Mystery Reader
In Early Years and Key Stage One, we are very excited to welcome 'Mystery Readers' into our classes. We ask parents and grandparents to volunteer to come along and read a story to the class that their child is in. Who the reader is remains a mystery until they arrive at the classroom door. Our children love seeing who the Mystery Reader is going to be! Please email your child's class teacher if you would like to come and join us and be a Mystery Reader yourself!
Reading Ambassadors
We are proud to have Reading Ambassadors in school who promote and share the love of reading by reading stories to younger pupils at lunchtimes in 'The Hive'. Pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6, who have expressed a love of reading, enjoy spending time with the younger children while they relax and enjoy a story at lunchtime.
'Read and Feed' at BAASC
At 'Before and After School Club', our children are invited to read their books from school with an adult. This provides a key link between home and school, and also school and club, and the children enjoy the opportunity to read their book in our beautiful, relaxed space at 'The Hive' while they snack, chat and play with their friends.
