Maths
Our first maths topic of the year is place value. Today, we have been recognising numbers to 100.
D&T
As part of our Stone Age topic, we learnt about Stone Age shoes and made a version of our own.
Science
We loved investigating different types of soils - clay, sandy and chalky!
Stump Cross Caverns
We loved exploring Stump Cross Caverns and learning about stalagmites and stalactites. We also had chance to dig for fossils!!
RE
We had a visit from Reverend Pete from St James's Church to talk about the Bible.
English
We have been learning different SPaG topics during English, such as using conjunctions, inverted commas and puncutating our sentences correctly.
Geography
We looked at maps of Wetherby from today and compared them to maps from 1909, 1971 and 1981. We then went for a walk around the local area, looking for human and physical geographical features. We took photos of the features we found around Wetherby, such as shops, houses and the River Wharfe.
Design and Technology
We really enjoyed learning about and making our own model Ancient Egyptian shaduf.
A shaduf is a hand-operated device for lifting water, used in Ancient Egypt!
History
We had a fantastic day at Leeds City Museum learning all about Ancient Egypt and exploring the different exhibits in the museum. We got to mummify our own dolls and see a real mummy, Nesyamun!!
English
We read the book 'Tin Forest' and made our own tin forests as part of a homework project. They were all amazing!!
Science
We planted different vegetable seeds in our class allotment. We look forward to harvesting them in the summer!
History
We learnt about mummification in Ancient Egypt. Then we mummified tomatoes to see what would happpen! We took the seeds out of a tomato, washed it and filled it with a mixture of salt and bicarbonate of soda. We found out that the salt and bicarbonate of soda mixture protected the tomato from going mouldy over many weeks!
Geography
In groups, we created an earthquake safe builing using matchsticks and mini marshmallows.
Then, we tested it survival on jelly.
