Inspiring Today to Achieve Tomorrow

Welcome to the Year 6 Class Page

Mr Mawer, Mrs Davis and Miss Gill welcome you to Year 6. We look forward to showing you what we have been up to on this page!

Making periscopes!

We used cereal boxes and mirrors to create periscopes in our new Science topic to help demonstrate that light does in fact travel in straight lines!

Wetherby Bulldogs - Rugby taster sessions

Year 6 were fortunate enough to take part in some brilliant rugby taster sessions with some Leeds Rhinos coaches on behalf of Wetherby Bulldogs - we had a lot of fun and learnt some new skills!

Special Visitor - Bryan Ellings

We had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Bryan Ellings, who now lives at Wetherby Manor, visit our class just after Christmas to talk to us about his life and his childhood! Bryan is turning 100 this year and had some unbelievable stories that all of us thoroughly enjoyed - he definitely inspired the class who had a lot of questions to ask about his role in the home guard during the war!

Holocaust Centre North - School trip!

We had a really interesting and insightful visit to the Northern Holocaust Centre at Huddersfield University where we learnt a lot more about the Kindertransport and the difficulties refugees face, not just from WW2 but also in the present day. We were also fortunate enough to hear a Kindertransport story from the perspective of someone's daughter, who had fled to England at the beginning of the war!

Leeds Rhinos Netball sessions!

We really enjoyed our Spring Netball sessions with Leeds Rhinos!

Using P.E. for Place Value!

During our place value topic when learning about comparing and ordering numbers, the children designed some PE games where we could use a scoring system to create our 7 digit numbers, which we then used for our Maths task.

Searching for Roman Artefacts

As part of our Local History Study, artefacts that were found at Dalton Parlours (a Roman villa discovered near Collingham) were hidden around our outdoor area that children had to locate! Once they found the artefacts, they had to think like Historians and discuss what the artefacts were, what they were used for and what they clues they could give us about the people that owned them and what daily life might have looked like!
