Whole School Cooking Events
As well as our regular D&T lessons, making, designing and evaluating different projects, we hold importance to cooking, with each class cooking once a term and Early Years cooking every week. We have held whole school cooking competitions, whereby each class makes a dish and the guest judges sample the dish and decide a winner based on taste, texture and flavour. This was opened to parents at the end of the day, for them to also sample some of their child's class dish.
Cooking Across School
We love cooking every term. We've made cakes, biscuits and bread, just to name a few. EYFS bake every week!
Events and Charitable Sales
As a school, we enjoy completing regular cooking activities and often link this to special events, such as decorating biscuits and making fruit skewers for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and baking and decorating bear biscuits for Children in Need. The children have also held many of their own charitable fundraising events, such as a bake sale for Ukraine and stalls at our Christmas Fair.
Educational Visits
Year 1 and 2 visited Yorkshire Sculpture Park, as part of their Art and D&T topic. They loved making their own sculptures.
50 Things to do Before Leaving Crossley Street
During their time at school, each pupil works their way through a '50 Things to do Before Leaving Crossley Street' document, which has D&T links, such as make a bird feeder.
Young University
Young University topics often have a D&T theme, such as making moving vehicles, STEM bridge building and learning about food from different cultures.
Cooking After School Club with Kiddy Cook
KS2 children are really enjoying their weekly cooking club. They've made dough balls and biscuits so far!
