Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)

At Crossley Street Primary School, we believe that PSHE is at the heart of helping every child to flourish, feel valued and develop the confidence to make positive choices. Our PSHE curriculum nurtures the whole child, supporting pupils to develop their emotional wellbeing, resilience, self-awareness, relationships and understanding of the world around them. In light of the updated statutory guidance from September 2026, we primarily follow the Kapow Primary PSHE and RSE curriculum from Year 1 to Year 6, carefully adapting and supplementing it to reflect the needs, experiences and priorities of our own school community.

Our school values of Be Ready, Be Kind and Be Proud underpin our approach. We encourage children to be ready to learn, grow and face life's challenges; be kind by showing care, empathy and respect towards themselves and others; and be proud of who they are, their achievements and the positive contribution they can make. Through a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment, we empower our children with the knowledge, skills and confidence to stay safe, build healthy relationships, care for their wellbeing and become responsible, compassionate and confident members of our school and wider community.

British Values

At Crossley Street, British Values are embedded throughout our whole curriculum, from Early Years, right the way up to Year 6. The values of: Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs, are also covered through our weekly Moral Message assemblies and are a part of everyday life at Crossley Street. We start learning about British Values as soon as the children enter Nursery, where they democratically choose their book for story time, which also links to the Moral Message!

World Mental Health Day

We celebrated World Mental Health Day in school. All classes carried out a variety of activities in class to help with our mental health. Breathing activities, art and exercise to name but a few. We also introduced the children to the 'Zones of Regulation.' which is a toolkit in each class which helps us to recognise and manage our own feelings and emotions.
